Miriam commenced her career as a professional vocalist, graduating from The Elder Conservatorium of Music in 2003 with a Bachelor of Music Performance in Jazz Voice. Her work with vocalists across Adelaide highlighted a need for high-quality clinical voice care, which led her to study a Master of Speech Pathology at Flinders University in 2006.

Since graduating, Miriam has held a number of positions across both Adelaide and Melbourne which have established her as an expert clinician in the areas of voice, swallowing and upper airway management.

Miriam has been the lead speech pathologist in voice analysis clinics at both The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne and The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. She also worked in private practice at Voice Medicine Australia treating patients with voice and upper airway disorders as well as rehabilitating performers through vocal injury. Throughout these roles, Miriam has developed a comprehensive understanding of laryngeal function and pathology. She works closely with Ear Nose and Throat surgeons to accurately diagnose voice disorders and develop optimal treatment plans for her patients. Miriam can offer comprehensive pre and post-operative care for you, working with your surgeon to achieve the best outcome from your laryngeal surgery.

Miriam has held senior clinician roles in major tertiary hospitals in both Melbourne and Adelaide. As a senior speech pathologist at The Alfred Hospital, she established a new middle airway clinic, in conjunction with The Alfred Respiratory physicians, to care for patients with upper airway disorders. This specialist clinic offered therapy for patients who had difficult-to-treat asthma, chronic cough and inducible laryngeal obstruction.

Miriam has also worked extensively in the Intensive Care Unit honing specialist skills in swallowing, voice and upper airway management with critically ill patients, patients with inhalation and burn injury, and heart and lung transplants.

Miriam is skilled in instrumental swallowing assessment with both Videofluoroscopy (VFSS) and Fibre Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). She has a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and function of swallowing and is experienced in the assessment, diagnosis and management of complex dysphagia (swallowing disorders). Miriam has helped countless patients to achieve improved quality of life through customised therapy and meal- time plans.

Miriam is the current Vice President of The Australian Voice Association, an active member of The Laryngology Society of Australasia, The Australian National Association of the Teachers of Singing and a certified practising speech pathologist with Speech Pathology Australia.
