Meet your Certified Speech Pathologist – Melanie Duong
Melanie Duong
Melanie Duong is a speech pathologist with a passion for helping people communicate effectively and swallow safely. She joined Adelaide Voice Therapy with extensive experience in acute care and advanced swallowing assessment and management.
Melanie completed her Master of Speech Pathology at Flinders University in 2011, after beginning her professional life in the wine industry. Having grown up in the Barossa Valley and studied wine marketing, she discovered her true calling in healthcare and transitioned into speech pathology with a strong foundation in communication and human connection.
Her early career began at Royal Darwin Hospital, where she worked as a new graduate for two years. In 2014, she returned to Adelaide and has since worked at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC), building wide-ranging expertise across all areas of acute speech pathology.
Melanie has particular strengths in:
- Complex dysphagia management
- Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
- Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS)
- ICU and tracheostomy care
- ENT and Head & Neck Cancer conditions
- Neurological and neurosurgical rehabilitation
She works closely with individuals facing acquired and progressive neurological conditions, offering care across hospital, rehabilitation, and community settings. Melanie is known for her compassionate, patient-centred approach and her ability to help clients and families navigate complex health journeys with clarity and confidence.

She is committed to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development, ensuring her clients receive the highest standard of care. Outside of her clinical work, Melanie enjoys time with her family, chasing after her toddler, wrangling her energetic labradoodle, and visiting her hometown in the Barossa Valley.
