Meet your Certified Speech Pathologist – Anne Kavanagh

Anne is a dedicated and compassionate Senior Speech Pathologist with a long-standing commitment to person-centred, evidence-based care. She is passionate about delivering functional, everyday improvements that enhance her clients’ quality of life.

Graduating with First Class Honours from Flinders University in Adelaide, Anne began her career in 1996 with the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Community and Home (BIRCH) program. There, she provided comprehensive speech, language, and swallowing assessments and interventions for adults with acquired brain injury. Working within a multidisciplinary team, she tailored therapies to support each client’s unique rehabilitation goals and assist them in returning to meaningful roles in their lives.

From 2006 to 2024, Anne served as the Senior Speech Pathologist for the Commonwealth Home Support Program at Cairns Hospital and the Hinterland Health Service District, Far North Queensland. In this role, she provided both face-to-face and telehealth services to a diverse community, including the elderly, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. She worked extensively with individuals living with chronic conditions such as Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neuron Disease, and other neurodegenerative diagnoses. Her clinical focus remained on empowering individuals to optimise their communication and swallowing abilities, supporting them to live well with their condition.

Anne has been a certified Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) practitioner since 2007, successfully helping many people with Parkinson’s Disease improve their vocal strength and clarity.
Anne recently joined the team at Adelaide Voice Therapy at the Norwood Clinic, where she continues to bring her technical expertise, deep compassion, and flexible approach to care. We welcome referrals for aphasia therapy as well as assessment and management of swallowing and communication disorders for people living with neurodegenerative conditions.
